About Me

Hello world, I am Ashleh, a proud Canadian currently living in Islamabad, Pakistan as of August 2012. I like photography, traveling, animals, hiking, my family, blogging, Harry Potter and The Big Bang Theory. I've got three sweet little furbabies, a sable German Shepherd named Mya, an orange tabby named Fawkes and a fuzzy little grey Tonkinese named Cougar. Unfortunately they are back in Canada with my in-laws, as we were unsure of how the living conditions here would be, so we thought they would be better off to stay behind. In hindsight, I really wish we had brought them and I miss them tremendously.

My better half, Roderick, works as a military police officer and absolutely adores his job. We have been friends since we were 14 (both born in 1986 so that gives you an idea of how long it's been) but didn't become a couple until April 21 of 2010. It's a pretty cute love story, if I do say so myself. Apparently he'd been in love with me ever since we met, but never did anything about it. And then one night when we were hanging out, I just saw him in a different way, confessed my feelings and here we are. It started out long distance as I was still living in our hometown of Oshawa, Ontario, while he lived in Ottawa. In August 2010 we decided that the distance (a mere four hours) was too much to bear and since I had nothing holding me back, we moved in together. It all happened pretty fast but since we had been friends for so many years, it didn't seem like such a big deal. Then this past June 22, 2012, he proposed to me on a beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I am one lucky lady <3

As for me, I'm currently unemployed. I left my internship at a marketing and communications agency in Ottawa, as well as my job at the airport for a Canadian airline, to move across the world.

I am no stranger to living abroad. After graduating from college, I decided I wanted to see more of the world and get out of the city that I was stuck in all my life. So I packed my life into two suitcases and moved to the Netherlands, where I lived from September 2008 until January 2010 with a wonderful Dutch family as their au pair or nanny. Living abroad was one of the most amazing experiences in my lifetime thus far and I'd be lying if I didn't say that I miss it every single day. It gave me the opportunity to explore a part of the world I'd never been to before, I learned so much more about myself and met some incredible people along the way. Living in a foreign country, the bond that you develop with these people who are in the exact same position as you is unlike anything you could ever imagine. I had so many great friends there, from every continent (except Antartica, of course), and I can only hope that we will cross paths again someday.

The purpose of this blog is to chronicle our journey in Pakistan as well as all the moments leading up to it!  I never remember to write in paper journals, and I have a horrible memory, so I want to be able to look back on everything, years down the line. Once it's on the internet, it'll never be forgotten. Or so I'm hoping! It's also a great way for us to keep in touch with family and friends back home in Canada, just to show them photos or talk about our day to day life and all the trips that we'll most definitely be taking!

So follow along on this new journey that we are embarking on :)
